Once simply something to stuff your groceries into, the plastic bag from the supermarket – or high-density polyethylene singlet bag, to use its full title – is facing its greatest test (even greater than heavy bottles of soft drink and boxes with sharp corners). Environment minister Peter Garrett will join state colleagues on April 17 to discuss a phase-out, or even a ban, on single-use plastic bags. The plastics industry says calls for a plastic tax or a ban on the single-use bag are way out of proportion. Environmentalists say they’re a menace to society. Click here to read more ……
