We’re all been trained to believe we need to pay more money for organic food. But, according to an article in the International Express (July 2008) this is not the case today. Organic or Eco friendly fruit and vegetables are grown without chemicals and tend to be sold locally. Fuel price increases and increasing costs in farm chemicals that are hitting the majority of the farming community are not hitting the growers of organic foods to the same degree. As a result the game rules are changing. It is now the organic farmer who can keep prices down, whilst supermarket food prices in the UK have gone up by 21%, organic prices have been relatively static. The result is that consumers can eat more healthily, save money and keep the money flowing through the local community.
