Trends Downunder

Are trends in the garden industry global or regional. I’m often told that things are different in this part of the world, but are they much different? The Australian Garden Market Monitor, produced by the Nursery and Garden Industry Australia and Horticulture Australia Ltd has just been published and part of the report looks at trends. What are the trends downunder? 1. Colour especially Black and white combinations followed by natural colours and modern nostalgia colours. 2. Garden design is about easy care and low maintenance .Art and personal touches in the garden are in vogue and the emphasis is on foliage. Vegetable gardening is back in fashion and garden lighting. 3. Gardens are getting smaller with the home taking up 25% more block space than it did on average twenty years ago. 4. Water restrictions are effecting what we purchase and how we plant. 5. New home owners are not gardeners and do not know much about gardening. 6. Environmental awareness is on the increase and consumers want to participate. These results could have come from Europe, USA, South Africa or Australia. It seems the opportunities are the same around the world
