The consumer is always looking for stories, it helps them remember products and it boosts sales. Nigella Lawson and Jonathon Ross managed to get tens of thousands of consumers to use goose fat last Christmas when the story was told on UK TV. The Wollemi Pine from Australia has also seen sale increase due to the story attached to it. Stories are great to grow sales, but alas, too many garden centre team members believe plants are a commodity and fail to tell the customer the stories, hence sales never achieve their full potential and neither does customer satisfaction. I was therefore please to see that Miriam Young has formed a company to promote plant stories. Her business Planting Stories is working with breeders, growers and retailers to build sales via telling the story. I have included one of her stories in the new Hydrangea promotion. The more stories our garden centre team members can get out there the more sales we can make, lets hope Plant Stories can make a difference.
