Pinterest may have only appeared in 2010, but it is one of the most valuable tools for retailers. It reached over 45 million consumers in the month of July (2013) in the USA alone. A report in USA Today on 22 August 2013 by Jefferson Graham showed that it is being taken up rapidly by retailers at the big end of town, but has slower uptake with small retailers…it is about time we changed that. Nordstrom has 4.5 million followers on its page and one Pin Board called “shoe lust’ has 141,000 alone. Lowes, the Hardware chain has 3.6 million followers. Pinterest is the fast mover at present and you need to develop your Pinterest network for your business. A social network with few words and lots of pictures is being shown to be a real draw card for female shoppers. The company has just launched “Rich Pins” which allows retailers to provide extra information about the product they are selling, this enhances your online product catalogue. Research shows that Pinterest lovers go to the page multiple times a day…you get extra exposure for your business, whilst it is anticipated Pinterest are planning to accept advertising from next year.
